Are you a cardio junkie?

One of the hardest jobs I have at the Bodycoach gym is in trying to convince clients that the key to losing bodyfat is by increasing the metabolism. Your body will burn most of its fat at rest and if you can increase your resting metabolic rate you WILL burn more fat.

Running on the treadmill for 30 minutes will burn a couple of hundred calories at most, but will not boost your metabolism or work the major muscle groups! yes you will feel puffed out and sweaty, but this doesnt mean you have burned fat or worked the body to a level that will continue to burn calories after you leave the gym.

The only way to boost your metabolism and work the muscles is to do strength exercises! ladies, you wont get toned legs and a firm bum unless you are squating, jumping, dead lifting or doing lunges and you will never get strong and toned arms unless you are doing pull ups on the TRX, press ups and kettle bell work. Cardio does nothing to work these areas!

Believe me, I have trained and watched people training for over 20 years and those with fit, toned physiques and low body fat levels are not the cardio junkies! they are the smart ones who realise the maintaining and working EVERY muscle on the body is the ONLY way to train effectively.
